Index Prints Made Easy

by PPS

Ever wonder what images are on all those discs you've saved your photographs to after backing up your files? ( you DO back up your image files don't you?)
The answer may be simpler than you realize- make an index print!

The way to do this in photoshop is go to FILE>AUTOMATE> CONTACT SHEET II.
Just choose an image folder for your SOURCE IMAGES, then set up your document as a 8x10 contact sheet size or as a 5x5 that will fit into a CD protective sleeve.

The next step is to choose how many ROWS and COLUMNS to put on the contact sheet. For 8x10's- 4 columns and 5 rows ( 20 images) seems to work best, 5x5 -3 columns with 3 rows.( 9 images)
Click OK when you have the contact sheet set up the way you want it and the program will automatically create your contact sheet files. Have a print made of your contact sheet file- you now have a visual reference of the content on your CD/DVD.

Two tips for the price of one!:
After you've made the contact sheet file, save a copy along with your image folder before burning a CD or DVD. That way, if you ever need to make a copy of that particular CD, you can make a copy of the contact sheet too without having to do all the work again!
